Our Story

Casa de Lala is a virtual kitchen started in 2023 by our founders Robert, Hannah and Blanca.

We came across the concept of virtual kitchens in late 2022 and decided to explore it further over the following months. We loved the efficiency and flexibly that utilizing technology and the direct to consumer model provided, compared to a traditional restaurant model. With no need for "front of house" operations Casa de Lala would be able to focus strictly on kitchen operations, quality of our food and the value provided to our customers.

In early 2023, we decided to start putting plans in action to bring Casa de Lala to life. We studied the local markets and saw an opportunity to offer our latin street food concept to underserved communities in the South Shore. After searching for suitable kitchen spaces throughout southern Boston, we signed a lease with Gatehouse Kitchens in Walpole. This kicked off the lengthy process of procuring the necessary equipment and licenses to legally operate our kitchen out of Walpole.

We opened our doors for delivery and takeout in October 2023 to offer improved late night options and fresh Latin food to our community. Plans are in the works to expand our hours and menu offering, so be sure to check back in soon!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns. We'd love to hear from you!

The inspiration behind Casa de Lala

Angelina "Lala" Perez

Lala was born and raised in Moca, Puerto Rico and settled in Boston, in her early 20's. She had ten children that she raised as a single parent with minimal resources. She was a stern but loving mother and taught her kids the value of hard work and independence. Her love of the kitchen and Puerto Rican recipes were inherited by her daughters, who have kept them alive today.

Lala was a devoted Christian who attended church every Sunday. She was well respected for her dedication to the church, her grandchildren, and the community she served. She was kind and loving to all who knew her. Lala was truly everyones “abuelita".

Her children helped grow the family to twenty three cousins who frequently ran-amuck at her house in Hyde Park every weekend. She wouldn’t let anyone leave with an empty stomach! Her kitchen was a place of warmth, gratitude, safety, and deliciousness. Her traditional island dishes and imaginative creations were loved by all, as were her exuberance, spunk, and endless love with which she served them.

Lala passed away in 2008. As a tribute to her legacy, her grandchildren decided to honor her by continuing to serve her delicious meals with the local community. The goal at Casa de Lala is to make her proud by graciously replicating the love she shared in every dish served. ¡Vamos pa’ casa de Lala!

  • Blanca Iris Perez

Blanca is Lala's daugher and our Head Chef. She is the brilliance behind the Casa de Lala menu and the authentic recipes/flavors we offer. Attending Lala's culinary school growing up, she now wears the family crown in the kitchen. Without her experience and passion for cooking, there would be no Casa de Lala! She really grinds it out, and we all attempt to soak up her magic!

  • Hannah Somers

Hannah is our resident "gringa" and handles everything from food sourcing, inventory management, packaging design, catering, to our business and brand strategy. She can also be found in the kitchen experimenting with new sauce recipes, testing future menu options and ensuring that our empanada and pincho recipes are made to perfection. Her attention to detail is what truly keeps the kitchen firing!

  • Robert Feliz Jr

Rob is Lala's grandson and our "tech guy". He not only handles our website, POS systems, delivery partner integrations, advertising, finances, and business strategy but he also manages the putting out of fires, floating from station to station, answering the phone, and generally making things happen. He is an integral part of our web presence and what brings Casa de Lala direct to you!

  • Jormani Feliz

Jormani is another of Lala’s 23 grandkids and he is an indispensable part of the team. He chefs it up with Blanca prior to opening, is very involved in daily prep and ingredient sourcing, and likely has peeled your tostones. Platano man helps with all aspects of the operation, expedites orders and even delivers some of them too, all while keeping us laughing. Jormani is instrumental to the CDL operation and when he is in the kitchen, we all breathe a sigh of relief!

  • Bianca Alejandra Feliz

Alejandra is Lala's granddaughter and the brains behind our sister brand Cococanela . She handles our amazing dessert offering and helps Casa de Lala with our brand and social media strategy. Her passion for family and the Latin culture is what keeps us grounded to our roots and truly authentic!

  • Manuel "Manny" Perez

Manny is Lala's son and our business consultant. He has years of restaurant industry experience owning quick service restaurants in FL and MA. Manny pops in frequently to check in, offer advice, or steal a quick plate after a long day ;). He is a natural problem solver which makes him an invaluable asset to our team.
